Assisted Dying - What safeguards?

On Thursday 5th January we welcomed Baroness Finlay back to the Island along with Dr Carol Davis who between them had a number of meetings with members of the Government of Jersey, healthcare professionals and civil servants ahead of a very successful event held in conjunction with Our Duty of Care Jersey.

Baroness Finlay was the main speaker at an event held on Thursday evening at the St Paul’s Centre and was ably supported by Dr Rachel Ruddy who is a Consultant Psychiatrist based in Jersey, Professor David Kissane who spoke on Skype from Melbourne, Australia, Professor Theo Boer speaking on Skype from the Netherlands and Dr Carol Davis, a consultant in Palliative Medicine based in Southampton who has worked with Jersey Hospice for many years.

The event was very well attended with over 100 people in the audience made up of some States Members, healthcare professionals and members of the general public.

The evening concluded with a Q&A session to the panel of all 5 speakers.

The evening was recorded and the 5 main presentations are now available on YouTube below:

We have not published the Q&A session as we don’t have permission from each person that asked a question, and this would be much more involved to achieve.
